The warm summer filter that’s been gracing us so nicely is slowly fading and before we know it the ground will be hidden by crisp autumn leaves…Yep its nearly that time to say goodbye to some of my favourite summer traditions for another year.
Let me say firstly, I love being British, especially relating to the traditions us Brits unite in and adore, this includes some of my ultimate favs: summer garden parties, buzzing bbqs and park picnics – Basically our excitement for when the sun peaks out briefly for a few months, the rays hit and suddenly we are dusting off the rattan, bringing out the melamine and prepping the Pimms before we can even utter the words ‘Al Fresco’
There’s something extra exotic to us Brits about dining outdoors, a chilled glass of rose in the garden with the girls, the perfect picnic in the park…you know the scenarios..
One garden party that was truly dreamy was last week. A post christening gathering at one of my best friends parents house. The garden worthy of a glossy magazine shoot, beautiful hideouts in every corner, kiddie areas, chill areas, you were spoilt for choice where to pitch up for the afternoon, all wrapped up in yards of bunting and dressed with wild sweetpeas….utterly gorgeous..
We can’t not mention the food that comes with these garden gatherings, the best kind of party food, fresh baguettes, colourful salads including red rice salad and greek salad, homemade quiche, homegrown chive potato salad along with a massive cheese board, pickles and chutneys all followed by rose soaked strawberries, washed down with summer Pimms and cloudy lemonade. YUM!
Garden parties are like the sophisticated summer coffee date and unfortunately we haven’t attend nearly enough this year for my liking! So whilst I pack away the blanket for another year, I’ll make a promise to myself that next summer we will make it our mission to party more outside and glam up our garden!
