Juggling Screen time…..

Warning new mum worry has set in! This time the concern is… is my child having too much screen time? The answer to this question for us at the moment is no but its something that’s on my mind especially as the weather is getting unpredictable and rainy meaning we are a little more confined to the house.

The debate of what is too much screen time could go on for ages and I am sure there are plenty of strong opinions out there, mine is a love/hate relationship! Love because its a gentle way start the day, once breakfast is done, a bit of postman pat to ease into the day ahead isn’t going to do us any harm. Like wise after bath time, I love to snuggle with my freshly washed boy under a blanket and watch Bear Hunt or recently the Lion King- I mean I cant wait til Sonny enjoys cuddling up to watch a film and munch on popcorn!

If Sonny is being extra fussy at dinner or I need to quickly hoover the house then the trusty Ipad is a great distraction and helps me to achieve the mountain of jobs I am juggling daily; Having said that, I am conscious I don’t want it to be the easy option and for Sonny to just absorb the TV rather than create his own little games. I don’t want morning TV to turn into the whole day of CBeebies.

A few people have commented on how well Sonny can entertain himself, sit for a while and interact with his toys and role play, so that must mean the balance is right?

We are also a family who loves to get out of the house, a Sunday stroll or play date,  get some fresh air and tire little legs out plays a massive part in our day so surely as long as we continue to break and mix up the routine, we are onto a winning combo?

I haven’t downloaded any educational games for the Ipad yet, he seems content with the little time his does have with the screen but I’d love to know of any programme you’ve heard of or used yourself that you can recommend. Using the screen for learning purposes will help with the mum worry surely!

Cakeadoodledo….Devon

If you’ve managed to read more than one of my blog posts or know me at all then you will already know that I LOVE CAKE! Cake is my idea of a treat, an invited guest to my table anytime, any day and the most perfect accompaniment to a girlie catch up.

Always in search of the best coffee shops, bakery’s and cake sellers around, I take a cake date very seriously. Last Saturday it was time for a visit back to one of my favourite cakey spots..Cakeadoodledo..I mean ‘cake’ features in the name so clearly you aren’t going to be disappointed!

Kate the owner has 2 shops and is often spotted baking alongside serving her customers so already you know you are in safe hands! We chose to go to the café based at Quickes cheese farm near Crediton, its out of the city, with a perfect outdoors play area for Sonny to catch some fresh air or a lovely inside toy corner for those not so sunny days.

I have been to Cakeadoodledo a handful of times and there are so many other options rather than cake, fancy a fresh local full English to set you up for the day or a heart warming homemade soup?? With the choice of sugary treats extensive, all homemade and presented beautifully, you WILL  have to be aware it will take you about half an hour to chose a slice!

I must say as its something really important to me that Kate makes her cafes so child friendly, she interacts with the kids and makes sure there is a real family vibe, so so important when braving any form of eating out with a child!

A visit teamed with 2 of my besties and a toddler who decided he was going to be a gem that afternoon was a little piece of heaven!

I recommend you try this gem of a spot or head to the smaller Cakeadoodledo if you are in Exeter city centre.

Let me know which slice you pick!

I love this time of year, already my mind is speeding towards hot chocolates, cosy blankets, crispy leaves underfoot and evenings watching Strictly full from a delish Sunday roast! Of course last September I dedicated a post here

Autumn fashion is something I love and if you read my blog this time last year then you’ll know coats are something I became obsessed with! My aim is to build a collection full of loads of gorgeous colours and styles, I did make a good dent last year as you can see in this post but its only just gotten started and I’ve had to ditch the cheap, unflattering ones in favour of more quality!

Whistles (of course) is a brand who does classics well and their camel Alexandra coat is just one of those pieces that will look amazing time after time; with a price point of £285 it sure is an investment piece! For the more reasonably priced options Mango has a massive selection online right now, massive variety of colour and style!

Jumpers are everywhere and I for one couldn’t be more happier, the more embellishment the better in my eyes! I love a good bit pom pom or sequin on my knitwear. This Asos Multi Striped jumper priced at £25 is my favourite with the Warehouse Pom Pom £18 a close 2nd!

I am also a massive cardigan fan, they are so easy to layer on when you don’t know what the weathers going to be like and I mean that’s us all living in Britain so they quickly become our best friends! This colour blocking beauty from Pretty Little Things at £30 looks great thrown over a tee and jean combo!

Slightly off season although as above who can tell how warm the weather in Britain will be? These Tees from EgaliTEE will still carry us through the next season whilst spreading empowerment! Slip under a jacket or blazer and you are good to go..my fav is The Pips but I could snap a load up if the bank would allow!

If I’m feeling like I’ve worn jeans too much and need a mix it up then my go-to autumn dress is this Matalan Denim shirt dress, perfect teamed with tights and boots its my fav smart/casual look and at £18 Matalan knows how to look after our purse for sure!

Boots… I don’t think I’ve met anyone who doesn’t love a good boot! My preference is 100% the ankle and I believe everyone should have a brown and a black option to hand! Chelsea will always remain my fav style of boot but I do love these Faith Betsy Biker boots at £65.

There’s a million other pieces I want but that will have to be another post, I’d love to hear your favourites

Give them an inch and they take the whole hundred miles…..

Why is it when you are doing something nice for your toddler, you know buying the odd ice cream, some time on the ipad, putting on their favourite film why cant they just be content, grateful and decide to then be little treasures for the rest of the afternoon as a way of saying thanks??…At the moment in our house you give Sonny a treat and he wants more! More ice cream, more ‘Bing’, more Gruffalo; the little monkey will push and push and then proceed to tantrum til his little hearts content just to get something else!.

Once a million toys have been launched around the lounge, he’ll eventually calm down leaving two pretty dishevelled parents scratching their heads as to how that little offering of a treat escalated with such dramatic emotions! The tantrums are hard to control once they are in full swing so if I walk away for my own sanity as well as taking the attention off the little devil they usually stop pretty quick and if we haven’t quite reached the peak then distraction is my go-to technique!

The emotions of a toddler will always baffle me, I long for the day when he says thank you Mummy that was really nice (I hope) I will continue to stick to my guns in the hope that you know its shaping him for future life (ohhhh the pressure) and just ride out this phase with regular chocolate consumption!

Please tell me your child does this too!
